Jakarta Activities

What to Do in Jakarta

There is no shortage of fun-filled activities to awaken your senses and spend your time when in Jakarta, regardless of age or gender. The beauty of this city is that it offers the best of both worlds.

This is a place where world-class spas meet with incredibly reasonable priced massage parlours; a visit to a 27-hole golf course can be followed by a spot of diving off azure shores in the Indonesian Ocean.

If you tire of the chaotic city then venture out to the Ancol Amusement Park, with its resort-like atmosphere – sure to cure you of any inner-city fatigue. Jakarta is not the easiest city in the world to navigate around so a map is a vital asset.

Ancol Amusement Park

The centre of all things amusing in Jakarta, Ancol is home to an abundance of effervescent fun including water parks and Dunia Fantasy. The resort-like fun park has something for everyone, whether it's live entertainment or enjoying a romantic gondola experience.

Art buffs and tourists in search of souvenirs should visit Pasar Seni Art and Handicraft Market. For something a bit more educational, head on down to Sea World where lectures regarding the extensive marine life in the Indonesian Ocean are given.

Horseback riding in Jakarta

There are several equestrian clubs in and around Jakarta where you can learn how to ride with an experienced instructor, or simply take your own lead if you are confident enough. Riding lessons are usually on a one-on-one basis and most schools have a maximum of three people per class, for safety and teaching purposes. Ultimately this is a great opportunity to get to the outskirts of Jakarta, enjoy the fresh air and appreciate the surrounding natural splendor on horseback.

Scuba Diving in Jakarta

Indonesia is a global attraction to many, because of its incredible marine life. Jakarta is situated on the island of Java which means diving is an easy option, and this is a pretty incredible place to do so, having one of the richest and most diverse marine habitats on the planet.

The ocean has over 500 different types of coral, sea horses, turtles and whale sharks – to name but a few creatures in this exotic underwater world.

Dive centres and liveaboards are not hard to find in Jakarta; just head over to the north of the island. During the months of June, July and August, following the monsoon, the reef fish are at their biggest and for many this is a popular time to dive.

Sea World

Inside the Ancol Dreamland complex, Sea World is a high-tech modern aquarium featuring samples of the extensive tropical marine life that inhabits Indonesian waters.

Here, more than 4,000 fish and 300 species of sharks can be seen. The attraction is also home to two theatres where educational films are shown.

Opening Hours: 09:00 - 21:00
Address: Taman Ria Ancol

Indonesia is a leader in the wellness and spa industry. Jakarta especially is a melting pot of relaxation, rejuvenation and regeneration practices, understandably a much-needed remedy for the hustle and bustle of the city.
